Wedding Take Aways

What a beautiful wedding held at Kronenburg wedding venue outside Wellington on 10 December 2010.  The wedding colours where black, white and silver, a modern day classic.  The cupcakes where the couples favourite, chocolate mousse, buttermilk & cinnamon and carrot cake all into individual boxed lined with black & silver fleur de lie printed tissue paper with a black saddle stich ribbon around the bottom, each guest had the decision of taking it home or eating it there and then.  The wedding cake was a rich, dark & gorgeous chocolate mousse cake with a dark chocolate colar topped with lots and lots of whispers (I had to drive back to the wholesalers after I ate half of the first bag...devine).  This cake gave me a very good reason to go buy that pewter cake stand with a glass dome from Chikadee in Somerset West, it has been on my to buy list for quite a while...

Kitchen Tea at My Studio

The studio is at 6 Neethling street Stellenbosch. It has a beautiful garden which is the ideal setting small intimate functions like the kithen tea that Hannelie van der Merwe held for her sister. Delicately Different provides everything needed, from the food to the decor and for functions like these lots of champagne/sparkling wine.

Danie and Ilene - my favourite

After the first time I met with Danie and Ilene I knew that this couple was a match made in heaven and that I was going to have fun creating their cake. As they are a very funky couple they didn't really want to do the worn out wedding traditions..... the cutting of the cake, but they wanted a cake with a difference. As they didn't have gifts for each guest and the cake had to be dessert, I suggested: "why don't we put the jumbo sized cupcakes into the clear pack boxes with a ribbon, then the guest can decide if they want to eat it there or take it home with them!" And so I got nodds and smiles. The wedding colours where black, white with a touch of turquoise, and knowing that Danie likes carrot cake and Ilene like chocolate cake, Danie's pet name for Ilene is 'duifie' and Ilene's for Danie is 'vissie', I had some thinking to do. And this is what we came up with......

A 1.5m tall cake, each tier being different from the other and each box had small edible turquoise fish in them, unfortunately I couldn't find any white edible birds. Luckily nobody noticed, I think it is because Ilene looked absolutedly gorgeous!

The top 2 tiers was choc chip cherry chocolate cakes with a yummy chocolate butter cream icing, blue dragees and a white chocolate heart.

The following and bottom tier was carrot cake with a devine vanilla cream cheese frosting and buttermilk and cinnamon with a chocolate coated toffee alternatively.
The 3rd tier was a moist devils chocolate cupcake with the yummy chocolate butter cream frosting decorated with mini smarties and mini astros...

Imke and Pete

The wedding of Imke (South African) and Pete (Australian) who met in Holland, was held at Hidden Valley Wine Estate, just outside Stellenbosch, on 17 April 2010. We baked the most delicious chocolate and vanilla cupcakes but the rest of it was a team effort. The ladies from Paradiso Flowers at the Chelsea House in Somerset West did the flowers and they also sourced the plates from the shop Gister also at Chelsea House. The entire wedding had an antiqueish feel to it with victorian class and style, so the cake had to match the wedding.

The photo below was the cake to cut, small, elegant and simple!
